Causal Loop Visualizer

The problem. In discovery conversations, organizational problems arrive as isolated symptoms—attrition, delays, or overtime. Lists hide the structure. The real issue is almost always a loop: the firefighting that causes the fires, or the quick fix that worsens the dependency. Describing these loops in words fails, making it hard for clients to see past surface-level symptoms.

Why I built it. I wanted to deepen my own practice of system dynamics and systems thinking, combining it with team dynamics models like Tuckman’s stages of team maturity. Beyond my own practice, I needed a tool to map loops live, helping clients identify their root systemic challenges rather than just reacting to symptoms.

What it does. It is an interactive editor for causal loop diagrams (variables, polarities, reinforcing, and balancing loops) that can be drawn on a tablet or laptop during client conversations. It combines systems thinking with established frameworks, modeling how loops evolve as teams transition through different maturity stages.

The benefits. It cuts through complexity to locate the real issue. The client gains a shared, visual understanding in minutes rather than weeks. Because they co-create the diagram in the room, they co-own the diagnosis—which is critical for making change happen.
